Younger, Tighter Skin with Visage Cosmetic Center's Thermage Treatment
Thermage(r) is an FDA-approved cosmetic procedure that uses technology called ThermaCooL(r) TC. Thermage is a process that renews collagen production by heating collagen in the lower layers of skin causing tightening of collagen and rejuvenation of collagen production. The Thermage procedure is the only non-invasive, no-downtime treatment that delivers tighter skin, renewed facial contours and healthier collagen. This procedure is available only in the offices of qualified physicians who specialize in cosmetic procedures. Visage Cosmetic and Aesthethic Center, located at 1025 Portion Road, Farmingville, NY 11738 (www.visagemedispa.com; 631-736-7336 is one such facility who has a medical doctor on staff to perform the Thermage procedure.

Skin is made up of two layers, the visible outer layer called the epidermis, and the deeper layer called the dermis. The main structural component of the dermis is a protein called collagen, which gives the skin its strength. As we age, the body produces less collagen resulting in wrinkles and laxity. The Thermage procedure causes the collagen in the dermal layers of the skin and its underlying tissue to tighten, thereby reducing skin laxity and wrinkles and renewing facial contours.

The Thermage procedure for Skin Tightening uses patented radiofrequency technology to create a precisely controlled zone of heating in the dermis and the underlying tissue. At the same time, the epidermis is protected with continual cooling. Heating of the collagen to critical temperatures, initiates a natural biological reaction that causes the collagen to contract and thicken. This process, called denaturation, provides the initial results of tighter, smoother looking skin. The body also initiates a second response to heating within the dermis and underlying tissue. This response is part of the body's natural wound-healing response and initiates new collagen creation providing long-term tightening of the skin. The combination of these two processes, provide immediate skin tightening and long-term tightening effects.
While there are a number of procedures available that affect collagen, only the Thermage procedure offers a completely non-invasive, no downtime method to tighten loose skin.

A small probe is applied to the skin which emits radio frequency energy in the form of heat to the dermis where collagen is produced. This energy triggers collagen production which supplies structure to the skin. Collagen rejuvenation over time leads to a younger looking appearance of the skin. Thermage(r) treatment is commonly used to treat the forehead, brow, eyes, mid and lower face and the neck. Thermage(r) is not meant to be a replacement for the facelift or brow lift but it is a non-surgical alternative in mild cases of collagen breakdown to help restore resilient skin, giving it a more youthful appearance. You can literally look 10, 20 even 30 years younger than your biological age.

Initially, there is a consultation with Visage to determine desired results and if you are a candidate for the procedure, the results desired will determine the length of the procedure and the area to be treated. The range is one to two hours. Collagen tightening is immediate, while desired skin tightening is slowly visible between 2 to 6 months. Usually, only one Thermage procedure is required. You will notice the results over time, since your body is doing all the work as it produces collagen to give more structure and shape to the skin. You will be amazed at how your skin responds. It will naturally look brighter, younger, more dewy and fresher. Say goodbye to laugh lines, crowlines, brow furrows and saggy skin beneath your eyes and in your cheeks.

Patients receive a mild sedative and a pain-killer to ease any discomfort. A cooling spray is then used while the radio frequency is emitted to focus on the lower layers of the skin rather than on the surface of the skin. Radio frequency energy is emitted from a small probe to uniformly heat the dermis without damaging effects. Initially, you will experience a cool sensation a momentary hot sensation and then a cool feeling once again. There is mild discomfort during the procedure and the use of sedatives and pain-killers requires that you rest after the procedure. Mild swelling or minimal redness may be experienced in the treated area. These side-effects gradually subside within a few hours or at longest, one to two days.

"The Thermage procedure offers a gentler alternative to plastic surgery and the effects are more natural since your body's collagen is doing all the work," says Michel Lee Naekel, Director of Visage. What are you waiting for? The results speak for themselves.
