On the Cover: These Boots Are Made for Walking - Lauren Jones Launches New Shoe Line by Christine Lynn Harvey
You might recognize Lauren Jones since she was New Living's cover girl two years ago (January 2008). You’ve probably seen her as the face of MET-Rx and Pure Protein as Miss MET-Rx. Since our cover 2 years ago, she's been quite a busy lady. She did a shoot for Oprah Magazine in which she was challenged to change her platinum hair to a caramel color to see how her life would change. Indeed, she got a call one week later from Sly Stallone who wanted her to audition down in New Orleans for his star-studded movie "The Expendables." Jones landed a speaking role and her first movie credit amongst blockbuster stars: Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts. Jones plays Mickey Rourke's girlfriend and has several speaking parts. The film is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once they set out on their mission, this band of brothers realize all is not as it appears to be. The movie will be released in theaters October 2010.
With an impressive résumé of work in television, film, comedy and print, Lauren Jones has quickly emerged as one of mainstream entertainments hottest and most versatile personalities. Some know her as the star of anchorwoman in the comedic, partially scripted, reality hybrid show on FOX. Others know her as a real life on-air personality, delivering hard news at KYTX in Tyler, Texas or as a fun and charismatic entertainment host. Jones has also been seen as a Barker's Beauty on CBS' The Price is Right. As an actress, Jones has played comical characters on shows like MTV's Wondershowzen, Nickelodeon's The Naked Brother's Band, NBC's Last Call! With Carson Daly, and as a "pro athlete" wrestling famous faces as a Diva on WWE's Smackdown. In the past, Jones has appeared in feature films like "Anger Management" and as a TV reporter in "Spiderman III." On the Indie circuit, she has been in "A Perfect Fit" "Shooting Livian" and "Happy Hour."
In May 2005, Jones graduated from Parsons School of Design with a BBA in Design and Management. She further completed a study abroad program at the University of Westminster in London, England. Lauren has also studied the performing arts at Weist Barron and Three of Us studios in NY and has worked under private coaching in LA. Lauren also has a Long Island connection - she finished her 10th, 11th and 12th grades at Port Jefferson High School (Earl L. Van der Meulen). Soon after, she started modeling in NYC at the age of 17.
Lauren's big dream, ever since she was a little girl, was to get into the shoe design business. "I'm a girly girl and I know shoes and I can make a shoe seven times better," she says. "I always had this vision of what a perfect women's shoe would look like." Her big break came when she was at a sushi bar in LA and met Av Goodman, the president of Martinez Valero, a big shoe company. "I was always sketching designs for clothes and shoes when I took my business classes at Parson's and kept a notebook so I could sketch whenever I got ideas," she says. She worked with a designer to develop a very affordable shoe line aimed at young women who Jones says are "fashion forward, savvy, watch Sex in the City and don't want to spend a whole week's salary on a pair of shoes." Jones will launch her bridal footwear collection called Lauren Jones on February 15th, 2010 at Nordstrom.com, Amazon.com, LaurenJonesCollection.com or www.Zappos.com.
Jones is currently the star of "Baywatch Beach Body Workout, with Lauren Jones", available now at Amazon.com and on On Demand TV. Lauren has worked in New York City and Los Angeles, California for the last 11 years and is currently working in the Shreveport and New Orleans, Louisiana film and TV markets. Currently, she is a radio show host. Jones is originally from Jackson, Mississippi.
How in the world does she handle being a model, film star, radio show host, principal in a shoe company - all at once? "At times, I am totally overwhelmed, but I'm a driven person anyway. I want so much out of the world. I feel like I was put here to do things in life. I want to accomplish everything. I'm fortunate in that I have an 80-year grandmother who keeps me balanced. When I can't take it anymore, I call my grandma and ask her if I can have a 'grandma session'," she laughs. "My family, my roots keep me grounded," she says. "I don't need to live in NY or LA. I would never live anywhere else.
